The Information & Referral Program is comprised of several service components that meet the basic needs of the low-income Latino community. All of our services are bilingual and are designed to assist individuals and families in the community, many of whom are new immigrants, in accessing educational, public, medical, and government resources.
Each week, our caring, culturally sensitive bilingual staff meets with many families in the local community who come to us with a wide range of problems. The areas in which we can provide assistance include: - Advocacy and referrals for housing, welfare, medical care, various legal issues and local and county resources.
- Medi-Cal & Healthy Families Assistance; health insurance for low-income families.
- Center for Independent Living; advocating and offering services to people with disabilities.
- Informal translation, interpreataion and filling out forms
We also offer on-site bilingual services from the following agencies:
- Alameda County Social Services
- Medi-Cal
- The Social Security Administration
- The Center for Independent Living
- Votantes Unidos
Healthy Families
Many working-class Latino parents struggle each month to pay expensive medical insurance premiums for their children and many other families can only go to emergency clinics. What they do not know is that their children may be eligible for low-cost medical insurance through the Healthy Families Program. SSCF helps to determine if families are eligible and then assists them with completing the application.
