Math Tutor
The Math Tutor will meet with newcomer youth (beginner to intermediate level of English) on a weekly basis. Develop youth’s Math skills in analysis and problem -solving. Encourage students to participate and make them feel comfortable when questions are asked. Be patient and respectful towards youth.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Youth Leader (Juniors and Seniors preferred)
- Must present a professional appearance and a friendly manner
- Must be dependable and punctual
- Respect and maintain confidentiality
- Spanish and/or Mam speaking preferred
- CPR training encouraged but not required
- Leadership, efficient, teamwork skills
- Advanced English
- Clear communication
- Well-organized
Time Commitment
- Twice a week for 3 hours
Event Assistant
The Event Assistant responsibilities include setting up the booth information as instructed by the Supervisor. Greeting and directing attendees to the organization’s booth. Answer general questions about the services we offered on site. Encourage and assist people to register to our programs and/or the Aztec Run.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Must present a professional appearance and a friendly manner
- Must be dependable and punctual
- Be courteous and personable when interacting with the public
- Be self-directed, willing to take initiative, and detail-oriented
- Spanish speaking preferred
Time Commitment
- Event day for 8 hours
English Tutor
The English Tutor will meet with newcomer youth (beginner to intermediate level of English) on a weekly basis. Develop youth’s English skills on reading, writing and speaking. Encourage students to participate and make them feel comfortable when questions are asked. Be patient and respectful towards youth.

- Twice a week for 2 hours
English Conversation Volunteers
The English Conversation Volunteers will meet with newcomer youth, one-on-one or in a small group, to develop youths’ English speaking skills. Volunteers will provide opportunities for immersion conversational practice to build the confidence of newcomer youth to speak English. Be kind, patient and respectful towards youth.

- Once or Twice a week for 2 hours
Office Assistant
The Office Assistant will perform a variety of tasks depending on project deadlines in the office. This will include answering phones and other administrative tasks as assigned by the Supervisor. This position helps to extend the resources of the organization to better assist and direct the needs of our clients.
Qualifications/Requirements

- Be self-directed, willing to take initiative, and detail-oriented
- Respect and maintain confidentiality
- Computer skills desired, but not necessary
- Spanish speaking preferred
Time Commitment
- During staff lunch (12 pm – 2 pm), any weekday
- Once per week for 4 hours
Science Tutor
The Science Tutor will meet with newcomer youth (beginner to intermediate level of English) on a weekly basis. Develop youth’s biology, chemistry, and physical sciences skills in analysis and problem -solving. Encourage students to participate and make them feel comfortable when questions are asked. Be patient and respectful towards youth.

Safety Together- Walk/Bus Ride from OUSD schools to SSCF
Volunteers will meet students at an assigned OUSD school and accompany the students to our center either on foot or public transportation. This volunteer position can be combined with the duties of the English Conversation Volunteer to provide English language support to the students in our after-school program.
Qualifications/Requirements

- Must be dependable and punctual
- Be courteous and personable when interacting with the public
- Be familiar with public transportation routes
- Spanish or Spanish/Mam speaking preferred
Time Commitment
- Once or Twice a week for 2 hours
Citizenship Tutor
The Citizenship Tutor will meet with groups of 5 to 6 people (or individually) to review and practice civic questions. Volunteers will conduct mock interviews with participants for naturalization test preparedness. Volunteers must be familiar with the citizenship application process to assist participants when needed. Volunteers will implement basic reading, writing and speaking in English for participants convenience.
