College Mentor/Peer Mentor
College Mentor for high school seniors, or Peer Mentor for Avanzando Through College (ATC) participants (students in year 1 or 2 of college or transfer). You will undertake a variety of tasks designed to support students including:
- Support 1 or 2 students in their academic and professional pursuits.
- Provide application support (FAFSA, college and scholarship applications, personal statements, Oakland Promise EOP, etc.)
- Peer mentorship for ATC students to include- academic support, career guidance, social support and personal support.
- Support students, providing insight, guidance, and exposure to social work as a major and career.
- Develop students’ interests and aspirations.
- Provide personal experience and create a road map for students to navigate their educational journeys.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Dependable and punctual
- Courteous and personable
- Respect and maintain confidentiality
- Spanish speaking preferred (but not required, although some basic knowledge is helpful)
Time Commitment
- 1x/month for 1-on-1 check-in with case load
- Per diem during scholarship application season October 1st - May 2nd.
- Meet 1x/month, at a minimum, on Saturday 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
- Additional meeting times TBD by mentor and mentee
